In the picturesque village of Karya in Lefkada, Theodoros Katopodis built this museum in order to record and exhibit the rich cultural tradition of the region as well as the beauties of the island of Lefkada.
Karya is a large mountainous village of Lefkada and its history is closely related to the "karsaniki" stitch, a peculiar way of needlework which stands out from the rich tradition of the island in needlework.
The museum houses numerous important exhibits which cover an area of 200 square metres.
"It is a completely private effort and work of a man from Lefkada who for many years through the joint activities contributed to the cultural events in Karya..." the newspaper Lefkaditikos Logos mentions.
In the place ouside the museum you will find the traditional agricultural tools, the wine-presses, a traditional machine with which they used to make tsipouro, the oil-press with the threshing floor and the threshing floor for the grains. In the museum you will see: Loom, well designed handwoven materials, emboideries, photographs of the old "karsani" who tought the unique art of homespun emboidery and material creations. |
